Dhograc Darkmane

Dhograc , Galf , Orren and Cho have been tasked to find out what is happening with the out farms , there has been word of a large band of mercenaries laying waste to the area .

Our intrepid crew have a major flaw , they cant say no to helping people , sometime they dont even do it for money .

The greater good they say , but bollox to that , its taste of feeling alive and being on the edge…….. this is the code of this band .

Traveling to a deserted farm they encounter some crows , then they travel to a camp of these creatures with long noses and a fight ensues ,

"slow and steady boys " shouts Galf , in his relaxed tone

"Aye " Shouts Orren

Cho stays Quiet

Dhograc lets out  a sigh , makes a sign to marthamma duin  "Aye "  he says to himself , those really have long noses !"

THE ORDNING

With the help of a sea pirate called Davos , the characters get free passage of the Black pig , they travel north to find the sea full of corrupt beings and deadly frost giant reavers , attacking many of the ports . An encounter with a Beholder sends them reeling , but they over come it , and the undead minions it has possessed.

Further north they encounter more giants , and this time the mighty Harstanag , with his help you despatch a group of frost giants and ice tolls .

He tells you to meet beyond the ice sea , finally after weeks of travel you meet up with him and he explains the following :

. In Waterdeep, he's remembered as the largest member of Force Grey, a notoriously destructive adventuring company that came to the city's defense on more than one occasion. Believed to be hundreds of years old, Harshnag wanders the wilderness with greataxe in hand, seeking to lay low his evil giant brethren. Harshnag's history isn't important to this adventure, and he doesn't like to talk about his past. What's important is that he knows that the ordning has been broken, that the storm giants no longer have the power to keep the smaller giants in check, and that King Hekaton has gone missing.

Harshnag looks like a typical frost giant except that he's clad in plate armor and wears the skull of a white dragon as a helm. His jagged axe also looks quite formidable. He's a giant of few words who prefers to let his actions do his talking. When he does speak outside of combat, he comes across as surprisingly calm and soft-spoken. While swinging his axe in battle, however, he bellows and laughs like a berserker. In the company of small adventurers, he tries not to dominate social situations and  make too many decisions for them, because he knows how fragile and inflated their egos can be.

Harshnag knows the North well and has no chance of becoming lost in its wilderness. He's sensitive to the fact that many small folk have a freshly rekindled fear of giants striding into their settlements. As a result, if the characters visit a settlement while Harshnag is with them, he prefers to remain unseen on the outskirts. The exception is Waterdeep; he considers that city his homeand has no qualms about entering it, gently brushing aside guards who stand in his way.

HARSHNAG'S IDEA

Although he has been happy to wander the North, slaughtering his fellow giants at every turn, Harshnag now thinks it might be time to consult with a higher authority. He knows the location of a mountain temple built by his ancient ancestors under the Spine of the World. He calls it the Eye of the All-Father. According to giant legend, the temple contains a divine oracle. Harshnag offers to lead the characters to the temple so that they can consult with this oracle and learn how best to end the giants' threat to the North.

Prior to the shattering of the ordning, King Hekaton was arguably the most powerful of all storm giants. From Maelstrom, his citadel deep within the Trackless Sea, he resided over a court that included representatives of every race of giant, from mighty storm giants to lowly hill giants. He used the power of the Wyrmskull Throne-a gift given to him by his wife-to keep the more unruly giants in line. For as long as Hekaton had reigned, fear of the king's wrath and respect for the ordning was enough to keep lesser giants from rising up against him. But in recent years, King Hekaton had become convinced that the age of the giants was past, as evidenced by the growing distance between the giants and their gods. Annam the All-Father didn't answer prayers, and his divine offspring-the lesser giant gods-were out of touch, constantly waging war against one another on the Outer Planes. Hekaton came to believe that the giants were no longer the rightful masters of the world.

Then, several months ago, Hekaton's fear became reality when the ordning was shattered. The king was profoundly shaken by the realization that storm giants might lose their apex status among giants. In the aftermath of the upheaval, he did his utmost to hold his court together, bullying weaker giants into submission. Hekaton's wife, Queen Neri, was particularly fond of the small folk. She visited them often in the years before the ordning was sundered, rising up out of the sea to meet them on the shores of the Sword Coast. Neri continually urged her husband to respect the civilizations of the small folk and leave them alone, if he could not countenance forming alliances with them. Hekaton, inherently distrustful of the small folk, wanted nothing to do with them, but he respected his wife's desire to treat with them on occasion. Neri continued to visit the small folk from time to time even after the upheaval-until the day came when she failed to return from one of her trips to the Sword Coast. Hekaton's younger brother, Imperator Uthor, commander of the king's garrison, found Neri's corpse shortly thereafter on a small island where she had been known to meet with humans. It was clear that she had been killed by small folk, and Hekaton wept for days before threatening to unleash his vengeance on the unsuspecting coastal territories.

The Characters find themselves gearing up to travel to this ancient temple ……………..

Becoming Force Grey

After defeating the Rat men and entering the tower , the characters see a tall thin man on a wooden pallet, in the Centre of the room is a huge brazier with a single blue flame .

"Put your hand in the flame to become force grey " a faint whisper comes from the man

Each character gets a the mark of Force grey .

Waiting for 2 days and nights , on the third day

A huge gout of air , thrums through the man , and he rises looking much younger and fitter .

He looks confused and dis orientated , " who are you ? and why are you here ? " he asks

"Let me get my bearings "

"i am the Black hand of water deep , who are you and what brings you to my tower ?"

They answer …

"Ah you are the Naxene told me about,  you search for Harstanag "

Let me tell you what i know

The north is in ruins but not all is lost, i have just been in meeting with the Lady of Silvery moon , the dwarves of Citadel Adbar , sundebar , the paladins of Everlund, the might of mirabar and the magic towers of Luskan Still hold , but we hear nothing from Baldurs gate, Daggerford the dragon coast and cormyr, the Harkles travel to Thay to see if we can get help from the Red wizards , it is a shame your companion  perished he would have been a help, lastly we have had agents travel the fey courts to get there help    , the discussions we have had, has opened some dire  news i fear .

Someone has opened the ancient ways  and unleashed the beholders back on the world , these insane and evil creatures open random rifts in the fabric of time and space and this has has held back the deployment of troops, some cults have risen, also these Beholders house huge insect cities which they getting slowly through the rifts , these insects we have been told have evolved , the most prominent are the Cult of the dragon to south and more closely the black brotherhood , a festering pit of were beasts , which now seem to tainted with an ancient evil , they seem to be trying to poison water supplies  , this cult of the dragon seems to be ransacking the south building an army worthy of tiamaat, the drow steal villages of people and take them to the under dark for whatever purpose , but the most immanent threat is that of the giants , there seems to be a great moot , held but once a millennia , the giants grow bold and attack towns and villages , the word has spread of a place named Jorgenfist the biggest of all the giant moots , lead by the giants who hold power  , but none of my spies can find out anything , if anyone knows it will be Harstanag , he was last scene in the icewind dales , my link with him is weak , Naxene and Orren search for him also , But You are also  force grey now as by the sign on your hand and what is in your heart .

 

One last thing the man albino Drow with the red eyes seems to be involved , he is an ancient evil , some say he is Xaliasa  the last of mighty generals from when the dragons fought the rune lords before the time of star fall , when the realms where plunged into darkness for millennia, when the giants , dragons , elves and dwarves fought for the land , before the time of man.  But I know little of this yet . Come back and visit me if you ever find out anymore information .

With this mark you will be welcome in any city and be able to talk to any leader .  

Take this letter and give it too a pirate friend of mine named Davos , he and his crew will get you to where you need , the seas are rough this time of the year .

 

Later that day You find yourself on a secluded beach , on the coast of waterdeep , a small ship approaches , off steps a swarthy pirate, he is laden with gold rings and chains , his teeth each have a crystal .

Passing him the letter he reads it and nods , "step aboard fellas " he says " the journey will be rough at this time of the year and  i hope you have your sea legs , the journey to the ice flats near icewind dale will not be for the faint hearted ."

With that he bows and you get on the ship to set sale .

Meeting Scully , you start your journey up the sword coast towards the Ice Sea , they encounter a kraken nest and fight it off , but loosing a lot of ships Ammo , they take an early port , but find the place derelict , climbing aboard a large ship , they encounter undead minions , with many spines sticking out all over their bodies .

Then they sense a great evil , a beholder is approaching with the battle commencing ….

The Tower of the Black Hand

The characters journey to the Black tower, takes a bit of turn , not trusting Ulfars boat skills , Elrath and Hamon move off on foot , while Demvaril and Hamon take a rowing boat over to the tower .

They both see a running encounter between a small band of soldiers , trying to scavenge for food , but they are savagely torn apart by what looks like a group of mutated rat men. Shaking off this Grisly scene  they continue on.

Reaching the tower – they find an under water entrance to the to tower , Elrath goes to scout out. Returning from his scouting , he tells them

"A group of these rat men , are trying to breach the tower " he whispers , "they are being help up by a guardian of the Tower , some sort of construct !"

" They shall feel my steel , these foul things , that corrupt my city !" he continues

"Lead on " Says Ulfar

Reaching the Underbelly of the tower , the fight is reached , the smell of death lingers

Waterdeep is deep in trouble

Using the portal our heroes , find themselves in a debauched version of water deep, people walk around in semi delusional state. A gang of Rat men seem to control this part of the city . Feeding these peasants  small packets of drugs . Setting there base as this derelict house in which they arrived  , they grab a local man  and cure him  of this foul poison .

Telling them a local crime lord called the "king " Poisoned the water supply which lead to this debauchery , he doesn't know how people are paying for these drugs , but  he feels as if part of him is missing . He says the black hand was the only person who has showed resistance to these foul creatures but that was months ago .The characters seem to work out they are 6 months out of sync . They give him 10 gold and he leaves to find his family .

Heading towards the dock area , this part of town has less people and they see barricaded houses and shops , it looks like some of the people are fighting back .

"Thats the tower " says Elrath pointing out to the bay

"We need a boat then " says Ulfar

" Well , there are enough abandoned out there " says Hamon

"This is making me feel sick , this foulness is spreading throughout the north , " whispers Elrath , more to himself .

" Have Faith , young warlock " say Ulfar " we will sort this , we need to get a sample of this water , i sense this has links to a dark god , I not which one at the moment , but tiamaat is never far my thoughts , maybe this hand will know more !! "

"Indeed " says Hamon .

Moving towards the tower , and eerie quietness is all around as they search for a boat .

The fall and the rise of Dhograc Darkmane

The Wizard , the King and Hooded figure disappear into the darkness . Leaving the underlings to carry out the order .

Dhograc steps from the shadows and engages these foul foes , well if anybody is going to help , yes its Dhograc Darkmane .

The savage fight continues with the rats and Thugs , Dhograc doesn't manage to stop them from poisoning the town water , but he kills all but three., who finally take him down .

Finding himself in a cell , the hooded figure speak to him ,

"There is a monument in the mountains , i need you to retrieve a blue Gem for me, you have  been intected with a deadly poison , on your return i will give you the antidote and maybe a way to save these people "

"I agree " nods Dhograc

She opens the grill and gives him a mask .

A few hours later he finds himself on the street of Arden

"By the gods " shouts a voice " Is that Dhograc Darkmane ?"

"Harsk " shouts Dhograc "you my friend are just in time !!"

"Tell me more Lad "…………………….

The Way of the ways !!!

With a blinding flash and searing pain , Demvaril lands with a thump , Calling out a large hand clamps over his mouth

"Quiet" Hisses Ulfar

Demavril eyes swivel to a milk white pool , in a very alien looking landscape, huge herds of albino white Auroch type creatures , scatter the landscape , each the size of an elephant . Massive spires of purple and red rocks sprout like needs from the charred earth . A dull white  river meanders slowly through the landscape. Small Runes line thin and pathless ways, hardly visible to the eye.

Then From the pool , a creature of horrific terror arises , a beholder a creature of dark legend , and powerful beyond belief . Its diameter is over 30 feet, this horrific abomination , turns to feed on one of the packs of aurochs with deadly profiency .

Ulfar takes them back to his cave , and explains he has been here for a few  months living on wild game waiting for them , the others fill him in on what happened to them .

Setting off the next day , Hamon recognizes the runes for water deep , they follow them for a few days , passing a huge domes alien city , many leagues to the east , about a hundred  times the size of never winter .

Finally the reach  a ravine and in the distance they see a huge gate , surrounded by runes , the green bracelet in Elrath`s pack begins to vibrate emitting a high pitch noise , It grows with more intensity as they reach the portal .

But then as they entering the clearing , a pack of Savage Crag cats appear number over ten , they are intent on food , and it looks like your it !!

Dhograc Darkmane
Sunday night Solo

In search of an ancient Artifact called " the night spear  " , Dhograc Darkmane  forge cleric of marthammor duin , has a habit of helping people , he cant help it , if they ask, he does it . For coin or a free meal or free lodgings , he helps . This means the people who accompany him don't stick around  long , and so he finds himself alone. Well …. most of the time .

He latest excursion found him in Cormyr in the city of Arden , to the north the high moors , to the south the lake of dragons , he had found out about a hermit who lived on an island in the sea of fallen stars , who might have important information.

In Arden very low on funds the cleric is asked to GET rid of a local group of drug dealers and general no- goods , by a member of the council , offering 300gp .

He accepts the challenge and finds out , these ner to do`s are going to hold the city to ransom or poison the water supply .

Fighting his way through the lair , he over hears a conversation between an unseen figure and the leader of this band , a huge were rat known as "the King" .

"My boss is willing to pay you well , if this goes well " says the hooded figure

"How well ?" sneers the Rat king

" The Black spider is willing to pay 1000gp , and if it works here , then he  wants you to continue to do this in the major cities on the sword coast, to cause some unrest  "

"How much per city ?"

"5000 gold pieces  "

"im sold " he hisses in glee " You five , go round the boys up and that damn alchemist "

"Ok boss!"

with that the 5 thugs move away followed by the hooded figure

"We gonna be rich boys , start working them levers , fuck the ransom , lets do some real evil shit !!!" with that he howls in mad glee , answered by his were rat cohorts .

Dhograc listens from the shadows thinking of what to do ………….

With a last minute lurch , the characters find themselves in an ancient forest, Ulfar is lost to them.

The Giants and insects show force

Moving down to the Teleport system, Hamon studies the Mosaic using his arcane skills, each teleport circle has a location. Including Waterdeep.

"Lets save the Elf before we go any further, she may have information we need." says Ulfar.

"Agreed" nods Elrath.

"Aye" Spits  Demvaril.

"I shall stay here and find out more about the teleport" says Hamon.

The party take the diamonds back to the prone body of Naxene, using deep earth magiks, Ulfar returns Naxene back to life, she gives Ulfar a potion of polymorph. Questioning Naxene about what is going on,

she says "I was once a part of Force Grey and adventuring troop that hunted giants, there was an uprising a few hundred years ago it was called the War of Jorgenfist, the Dragons and Giants battled, with her band and the dragons they beat them back. The greatest of force grey is a Frost Giant named Harstanag he must be old, would say if anyone can help its him but he will only deal with other members of force grey, she shows you a small brand on the back of her hand. To get this brand, you must join force Grey. You need to speak to Black hand in Waterdeep and to do that we must get there".

"A giant fighting Giants is not possible?" says Ulthar.

"he is one of my oldest friends, i promise you this is true!"

"Quiet!!" Says Elrath emerging from the dense trees of their camp "You should come and see this"

What meets their eyes is a force of Hill giants, Orcs, goblins and Wargs numbering two hundred or more, they seem to be looking for something or someone.

"I fear i have put you in danger! " says Naxene.

"Nonsense Lady " says Demvaril " Lets get back to the teleporter".

With that and on the verge of exhaustion the characters make it back to the teleporter not before seeing the huge force of Giants and Orcs enter the city, avoiding most of the patrols, Ulfar climbs a ruined tower, and the sight  that greets his eyes causes severe concerns, hundreds of swarming insects are attacking the giant Band…………

"By the gods" he whispers and makes a sign to Tempus

Meeting Hamon back at the teleporter.

They find him exhausted, he seems to be powering the runes with the purple magic that flows through him.

"Quickly!" he yells  "help me, we are right on a nest of these insects"

Ulfar and Elrath help and become severely exhausted ,but the rune powers up fully and then ………….

Blackness…………………………………………..
